Makeup for Moms-to-be. How to stay beautiful during your pregnancy.

All right, so I will announce it to the world, I am a mom–to-be for the first time!! I liked to think I had the beauty thing down pat-that was until I got pregnant and everything completely changed. My skin started doing things that I had never seen before and makeup went on differently. So, after many months of trial and error I think I have figured out how to stay beautiful and accentuate that healthy glow, with a few simple steps.
1. It is really important to see how your skin reacts to pregnancy. Are you oilier and acne prone, sensitive or dry now? You may find that your old standby products are just not cutting it. I did a lot of research online to see which products would be suitable for my needs, taking special time to read product reviews and customer comments. Then before I purchased I requested samples to try out (most companies were willing to do this). I found a skin system that worked and I was finally able to get a grip on my stressed out skin.
2. If you have managed to drag yourself out of bed long enough to actually get motivated to “do your face” then you are already halfway there. Opt for easy products that offer a two-step or two in one benefit. Like tinted moisturizer with SPF, (very important for a mommy’s delicate skin) or an under eye concealer that offers a boost to your eyes and minimizes dark circles.
3. Don’t overdue it. A simple look is best way to go. Moms-to-be have a gorgeous natural glow, so let it shine and don’t drown it out with heavy bronzers or powders. If you do find that your skin gets much oilier than pre-pregnancy, use a translucent powder or oil blotter mid-day to minimize a shiny complexion.
4. Take the time to wash your face properly each day and night. Not only is it relaxing, but it will also ensure that the extra oil and dirt buildup you may be experiencing is gently removed daily.
5. I know you have heard it a million times – drink plenty of water!! It will recharge your skin from the inside, out.
These are the beauty products I couldn’t live without.
Foundation
Concealer when I needed it
Translucent power
Lip balm
Some things to watch out for;
If you are like many of us that have to remove unwanted hair, then use caution, as your skin can become super sensitive and you may have a reaction to the hot wax or even worse-your skin can lift with the wax. I make sure to tell my esthetician that I am sensitive and to not go over the same area twice. Believe me, I learned the hard way!!
Food and drinks that are high in sugar will only add to the skin problems you are trying to combat, so try natural fruits for a mid afternoon sugar craving, instead. And stay away from fast and deep fried food-PERIOD!
I thought I would also highlight some of my favorite brands – they definitely helped “save face” in my time of need!!
Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer + SPF
Mario Badescu Oily skin products, especially the drying cream and healing lotion
Make Up For Ever’s Lift concealer
Mudela stretch mark prevention cream
I know some of you have stories to share and have experienced looking in the mirror only to wonder where the “pretty you” has disappeared to. Send me your beauty moments, the good, the bad and the ugly….

Hey Buddy,
Love the article. Where can I buy
Make Up For Ever’s Lift concealer? I use Mario Badescu products and love them. For years I have used cie de peau eye concealer, but recently I have noticed that it’s accentuating the wrinkles under my eyes. Do you think I should try Make Up For Ever’s Lift concealer would make a difference?
Congrats, Shana. That’s wonderful news.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I have a son who just turned three in May. I was very blessed during my pregnancy. I never had any morning sickness and my skin reacted well. My skin was actually better than when I’m not pregnant! Wishing you a smooth pregnancy.
