Summer Make Up for All Ages: Part 3 - Make Up In Your 40's

Posted 01 August, 2008, at 09:22AM by Shana King

40 may be the new 20 but your makeup shouldn’t be. Taking care of your skin is so important during these years. It’s all about being preventative and protecting your skin. Use high definition foundation and color correctors to help with age and sun spots. Choose makeup colors carefully because shades that are too bright can make you look out-of-date and older than you are. Use eye shadows sparingly and only use shadows that have a matte finish. Shadows with shimmer attract the light and will make wrinkles more apparent. Finally, use makeup to accentuate your positive qualities and make yourself feel great!

Brush Highlight of the Week: Pointed Concealer – for corrective color products, tap onto skin to mask discolorations.

Tip of the Week – foundation primers are fantastic and helps stop makeup from accentuating fine lines.

Using a primer has definitely made my makeup last longer and look better, especially in humid weather. My two favorite brands are MAC and Smashbox.

I love your tips! Keep them coming! I’ve just been using the pointed concealer for under my eyes and the medium concealer for blemishes, I might have to switch it up! I also totally agree with your tips on primers, what a difference it makes in my makeup application!

I find that when I use a primer, my makeup last longer and the foundation doesn’t settle into lines as pointed out in the article, nevertheless I find it difficult to apply because it tends to clump quickly. Are there any suggestions on the actual application of the primer to avoid this problem? Not sure if anyone else has had this experience. I have tried around 4 different brands and I usually have this problem. Thanks so much!

This may sound crazy, but I will be turning 40 next month and am just getting into brushes for makeup application (other than blush and powder). I love the makeup tips and have recently discovered your brushes. Thank you!
